Hi Tom, You haven't actually made a new blog, rather you've re-used an old one? I'm not sure it makes a difference -it might if you used to have people following your blog who might come back to you and undermine your acdemic work? That would be made more likely if they had been following you by RSS -or some other alert system.
If any of that is possible -you'd probably be well advised to start a new one as you were advised. Let everyone know if you decide to do that.
