Chicago

My Father often takes business trips to Chicago for Chemistry related tasks and has taken a liking to the city. So naturally we had to make a while family trip. As I write I am sitting in the apartment we have hired out until Thursday, it's pretty nice actually. We set off from home yesterday (Sunday) at 7am, Airport was shitty as per usual. Felt like I was in a cattle market, and I was the cattle. They push and shove and take away your humanity. Bastards. The plane wasn't much better. Being tall and such, I requested to be allowed to sit in one of the free seats at the front of cattle class. This because they have extra leg room. I did not ask to be sat next to a family of loud mouth, complaining orthodox Jews who seemed to have a problem with everything in existence. "Excuse me, do you mind? the light from your television screen is reflecting straight into my eye". Fucking hell, just move to one of the other 8 seats you have occupied between yourself and the other 4 in your family. twats.

But anyway, I arrived at the apartment we have. It's incredibly nice. Kitchen, free wireless, 3 HD TVs & nice view from the window (note image to the left). On first night we went to a pizza place called 'Gino's'. Big queue, so I expected good things & I wasn't let down. Y'know how people always talk about how 'fat' America is? I think I have found the solution to the problem. The portions. I mean for my 'starter' I requested bruchetta, which in England is usually a piece of garlic bread with toppings, yet here it is 8 pieces of garlic bread with toppings. I'll be honest, I didn't have much room for main course.

Today (which is Monday) we just did a bit of shopping and had a look around the city. I didn't do too much shopping myself except buying a pair of Ray-Bans, for driving etc. We then took a walk to somewhere called Milenium Park', there was some impressive stuff. It had this monument called 'Cloud Gate' which is by a British artist called Anish Kapoor. It's basically a huge mirror which is a queer kinda shape. Gives a nice perspective on the city though, check out the picture to the left.

Taken.

Well, today my sister had people over. So I had to be rushed out the house to prevent trouble and such. Rents decided to take me to the pictures to watch 'Taken'. The only thing I knew about it was it included stared Liam Neeson. He's excellent.
as per usual I find the most flattering picture of Mr Neeson.

Anyway, the film was brilliant. It fulfilled the typical action/adventure conventions, y'know hero, (kinda) love interest. The themes were mainly Kidnap & Sex-trafficking. So naturally a laugh a second for me. But yes, plenty of twists in the plot. Kinda predictable at some points, but all if forgiven. My only problem was that there was somethings left unexplain. Fair enough, bitch got saved, but what about her friend who died or a heroin overdose in the ordeal? How did her parents feel?
The whole sinario took place in Paris, conducted by Albanians. So it was great advertising for both the place & the Albanians. If I was easily pursuaded by what I saw in films, I would now beleive that sending your kids to Paris means they will get abducted by Drug dealing human traffickers from ALBANIA! and for some reason all the cars in the films were Audis. Some deal there. Kinda turns me off running away to Ibiza for a week next year.
I also have restored my love for the London singer 'Emmy The Great'. I found her myspace again when looking through Dev's top friends. She has a song called 'Edward Is Dedward', which is about the suicide of one of her friends, it is incredible. Cutely tragic.
"I sat with dad and drank some beer. We hadn’t spoken since last yearI took his hand, led him upstairs. Silently drew his body nearI couldn’t see, missed you so much. Missed you so large I had to fuck. Between your sheets all charred with grief. The pillows tainted with your dreams. I didn’t want to stop that fateI should’ve said a thousand things. Yeh, but heyLike we agreed. I will be brave. I will pour whisky. On your grave"- like a modern female Ian Curtis?
Oh &, I got tickets for The Killers at O2 arena in Feb, just before my birthday. I just pay Morrissey doesn't tour on the same day, easy but not necessary decision.
"and when you laughing and dancing, & finally living, hear my voice in your head and think of me kindly"- Morrissey
be safe x

Lincoln/sCUNThorpe (plus Naked Babes)

it puts off ICT coursework at least.

Here's the story of Naked Babes, heard of them. No? #

anyway, I spent the weekend in Scunthorpe. My original intention was to go look around Lincoln University, but pretty much 5 seconds before I step out the door. "Tom have you packed an over night bag, we are staying in sCUNThorpe". WTF BRAH. Wasn't happy, displeased wouldn't even do it justice, but then I realised it was only for the good of my grandparents, so why not?.
Lincoln looked the same as it did in the prospectus. New, contemporary & clean. First little seminar I went too was about studying Media Production. The guy/girl (whatever) who was doing the presentation was very persuasive, bragging about all their new facilities, and even having the bollocks to compare it to the 'mighty' Sheffield. But, to be honest, they do have the best facilities I have seen. Including their own student run FM radio station 'Siren FM'.
http://www.sirenonline.co.uk/ check that shit out! On a scale of 1 to Good. I would say the seminar was a good 7.betterthanaverage.
Next of all, I met up with Dale & Fishy. Who had just attended some seminar in the 'arkitek' place'. We found ourselves in the Journalism seminar and decided to take a seat. Now, I thought Terry Wogan was a boring piece of shit. But until you have seen this guy, you don't know boring pieces of shit. The presenter was just one big epic yawn. He spent about half the seminar talking about people no one cared about & about insignificant facts, and when it came to question time OH MY GOD. He took about 5 minites to say each word. If you asked what the time was, you would be there half an hour later with "Well, it's a matter of opinion really because in... blah blah blah blah blah blah Mexico blah blah blah James Dean blah blah blah blah blah blah" and you still would't have an answer. So 'Lincoln School Of Journalism' just shot itself in the foot.
We then decided it was time to depart and headed for somewhere called Scunthorpe. We went out at night there, for a drive. What a dive this place really is. This picture might explain it better than any arrangement of my linguistic choices could.
I don't think I saw one person under the age of 20 with a half decent dress sense. Maybe Gok Wank is necessary. and a decent police force.
anyway. Home now.
